Recently, I wrote about the Monroe Yacht Club’s Muskrat Carnival. Young Frenchmen were the preferred hunting guides for the elite of the area who enjoyed waterfowling in the marshes. These French guides introduced their patrons to muskrat. In 1902, some of these hunters put on the first muskrat carnival for the Monroe Yacht Club. The seven-year run of this festival was a smashing success.
