HILLSBORO — William Russell Pemberton, age 81 of Hillsboro, passed away Sunday evening September 12, 2021 at the Laurels of Hillsboro. He was born June 5, 1940 in Cedarville, the son of the late George Fredrick and Alice Irene (Hardy) Pemberton. He had retired from apartment maintenance and had also worked as a tire and auto mechanic. William was a member of the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church and had also attended the Richburg UMC. He was a member of the Buford Alumni Association and a prior member of the National Youth Sports Coaches Association. He loved his sports teams (good or bad) the Cincinnati Reds, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Brown, Dayton Flyers and any team their son or grandchildren were associated. His great joys were watching them play sports and coach. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping, building and racing cars. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years Sharon Ann (Willett) Pemberton, whom he married on July 10 1960 in Newport Kentucky. He is also survived by a son, Warren Russell "Rusty" Pemberton and his wife Jacqueline Marie (Lowe) Pemberton of Chester, SC; a granddaughter, Adreanne Marie Pemberton Walters and her husband Charles Andrew Walters of Rock Hill, SC; a grandson Brantley Logan Pemberton and his wife Haleigh Celeste Williford Pemberton of Chester, SC; a great grandson Charles Warren Walters of Rock Hill, SC; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, George H. "Joe" Pemberton, Donald J. Pemberton, James Fredrick Pemberton, Jerry Leroy Pemberton, Mary Lou Pemberton, Eleanor Ann Pemberton; nieces and nephews Pamela Sue Pemberton Shaw, Melanie Ann Pemberton Ruse, Dianne Marie Pemberton, Jerry Lawrence Pemberton, Kevin Eugene Pemberton, Keith Michael Pemberton and best friends Abby and Dusty. William loved all his nieces and nephews and wanted to acknowledge a special niece, Judy Pemberton Ferron of Xenia. He also wanted to thank his sister-in-law Donna Crawford Gibson of Buford and home health aide Lisa Hibbs of Hillsboro for their help and care, and Hospice of Hope, Council on Aging and the Laurels of Hillsboro. In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
