Stanley Hughes Obituary

Stanley Sherman Hughes Jr., 78, of Charleroi, died Monday, July 12, 2021.

He was born Saturday, May 29, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Stanley Sherman Hughes Sr. and Virginia Bryan Hughes.

He proudly served in the Navy. He was a member of the former California American Legion JFK Post 377 and a current member of the Roscoe American Legion Post 801, the California Young Men's Club and the California Italian Club.

Stan loved hunting, fishing and fur trapping.

In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by two wives, Ruth Staley Hughes and Johanne Sweitzer Hughes; two brothers, Charley and Jimmy Hughes; and two sisters, Naomi Hughes and Mary Lou Dobsch.

Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Ruth Bakosh and husband Jim of Farmington, Stanley S. Hughes III (Amy Watters) of North Charleroi, Julie Hughes (Joe Labaska) of Delta Junction, Alaska and Robin Rice and husband Tom of California; siblings, Raymond Hughes, Gertrude Sheer, Johnny Hughes, Betty Ann Hughes and Virginia Hughes. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Michelle Bakosh, Jimmy Bakosh, Amanda Watters, Kalee Hughes, Stanley Hughes IV, Dylan Hughes, Thomas Rice III; and three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Bakosh, Brantley Bakosh and Addison Davis.

Friends will be received in the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, for a memorial visitation from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, July 23. A Memorial funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Custer officiating.

Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery where military rites will be accorded.
