This is the last week for hunters and trappers to harvest foxes and raccoons.

Low fur prices have limited the interest in furtaking, but it is still a popular pastime for many.

At this point in the year, such furs have seen better days and offer little commercial value to licensed furtakers. Much like our own winter coats, after several months battling the elements, wild fur becomes damaged and loses its luster. The current market suggests even prime fur has limited demand, and overall the harvest of predators has declined with little economic incentive.
