Almost half a million Americans are diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control, with New York among the highest areas of infection in the country. Drilling in even further, the Hudson Valley is considered an epicenter for infections locally and around the world.

“The Hudson Valley is typically among the hotspots within the United States and within the world for Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses,” said Dr. Richard S. Ostfeld, a senior scientist at Millbrook’s Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies. “We’ve had this problem for a long time.”
