NY: A North Country angler recently pulled a record-setting fish from the Saint Regis Canoe Area, the state Department of Environmental Conservation reported Wednesday.

Benjamin Ferguson of Lowville, Lewis County, caught a 22-inch, 6-pound, 3-ounce “brookie” on July 5, edging out the 2013 record by 3 ounces, according to DEC.

The dedicated brook trout fisherman lured the large brook trout slow trolling a lake clear wabbler in the 18,400-acre Saint Regis Canoe Area, the only designated canoe area in New York state.
