Mark Dozette Obituary

Mark Kevin Dozette, 38, of Fairbanks and Ruby, took his last breath at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and went to be with the Lord on Nov. 26, 2021.
Born June 18, 1983, to Luis Dozette and Amber Anaruk in Bethel, Alaska, he spent his early childhood with his grandparents, Terry and Lilli Sweetsir in Ruby, attending Merreline A. Kangas Elementary. With his grandparents he enjoyed fall moose hunting, willow grouse hunting, trapping, fishing and camping along Ruby Poorman Road. In 1991 he moved to Anchorage, where he attended Ptarmigan Elementary, Clark Middle school and Bartlett High School.
Anchorage is where his love for sports began by joining baseball, golf and hockey, which he participated in until he graduated high school. Mark played with same teammates from when he began playing hockey at 9 years old until they graduated. He excelled in hockey and golf, taking his comp and high school hockey teams to state championships and out of state hockey and golf tournaments. Mark and his little brother, Jerel, spent their summers in Fairbanks playing golf with their grandpa, William Dozette, at the Fairbanks Country Golf Club. At the age of 12 Mark won his first state golf tournament and by 14 he was ranked one of the top three players in Alaska, winning men's tournaments in Anchorage and Fairbanks.
In 1999 Mark met his partner, love of his life, and future mother of his children, Janet Ahlalook, at Bartlett High School. Mark graduated from Bartlett High School in 2001 and was offered a full scholarship to play golf for the University of Florida in Gainesville and was honored with several letters from various Junior League hockey teams. However, family and spending time in Ruby always took priority for him. This is where Mark learned fur trapping, moose hunting, a subsistence lifestyle and a love for the outdoors. Grandpa Terry, Jay Delima and Mark had a very successful year trapping 90 martin and 12 lynx.
After spending a year in Ruby Mark returned to Fairbanks and began working with his uncle, Gerhard Schafer, building cabins. In January 2004, he joined Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 375 and completed his apprenticeship to become a pipefitter journeyman in 2008. He excelled quickly, becoming a general foreman on various jobs throughout the state. In April 2009 Mark and Janet welcomed daughter Gracie followed by their son Chace, daughter Karissa and daughter Cierra. He enjoyed annual moose hunting trips to Ruby by boat or the white mountains with his good buddy Mike Childs, snowmachining, blueberry picking, fishing and camping with his family.
Mark's hobbies included making knives, bow and arrow shooting, reloading bullets, gun collecting and shooting, hunting shows, watching "Frasier," listening to Johnny Cash and other music, learning to play guitar and ukulele, and although he didn't know how to paint, he enjoyed watching Bob Ross episodes. Anybody who met Mark was an instant friend drawn to his likable character. He had a great smile and a contagious laugh, loved to joke and tease his family and many friends, especially his good friend Hank Sommer. They had such a close friendship they named their dogs after each other; Hank and Dozer. Mark had a heart of gold and was a selfless man, always willing to help everyone and anyone. He was a rich man for all the friends and family who loved him and an even richer man for having God in his heart.
Mark is survived by his partner, Janet Ahlalook; children, Gracie, Chace, Karissa and Cierra; parents, Luis Dozette and Amber Anaruk; brother, Jerel Dozette and wife Darlene; nephews, Pete, Elias and Lukas Dozette, grandfather, William Dozette; uncle, William Dozette; aunts, Nina Dozette, Alicia Kangas, Theresa Sweetsir; uncles, Randy Kangas and Gerhard Schafer; numerous great-aunts and uncles, and a whole village of cousins. He is preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice Anaruk; grandparents, Terry and Lilli Sweetsir, and Sam and Lucielle Anaruk; aunt, LaVerne Schafer; uncle, Mark Dozette; great-aunt, Laura Dozette Bernard; and great-uncle, Mike Dozette.
A viewing will take place at 10?a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, followed by a noon service at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Fairbanks. Burial will follow at Birch Hill Cemetery.

I met Mark at a golf tournament of course. It was the first time I ever played and his ability combined with humility always stuck with me. He was a truly kind person and I am so sad to hear this news. My condolences to his friends and family.
