Burman Carl Vance, 84, of Clarksville passed away peacefully at home, October 28, 2023 surrounded by family. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 4 2023 from 1-4 pm at Amvet Community Hall, in Clarksville Iowa.
Burman was born on November 11, 1938 to Russell and Alma (Wedeking) Vance north of Clarksville, Iowa. He spent a lot of time with his grandfather Seymour Vance at the farm.
He attended school in Clarksville through the 12th grade.
He was united in marriage to Donna (Harris) Kelm for 17 years and to this union were born 4 children Brian, Keith, Tami and Chad Vance.
Burman met Sally Eveland in 1984, and they were common law married for 23 years. Along with Sally, came his son Seth.
Burman was a brick layer, and he built houses for 14 years. He worked in construction. Burman retired from UNI 1996 as steam/pipe fitter. He truly was a jack of all trades.
He was an avid outdoorsman. Burman passed on his love for hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, and cooking to his children, grandchildren, and friends. He made the family holiday meals, and sponsored many game feeds. He was often heard saying "If you leave here hungry, it's your fault." His gardens were very large, and often shared the bounty he grew with friends and family.
He enjoyed going for rides in his truck in the countryside. Anyone who knew Burman loved spending time in the shed and swapping stories. Burman's favorite line, "I'm here to tell ya" may have been said more than once.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sally Eveland, and brother, Jerry Vance.
Burman is survived by his children; Brian (Teri) Vance, Keith Vance, Tami Vance, Chad (Jennifer) Vance, and Seth (Suzy) Eveland, 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; Sister Elaine (Marvin) Bohlen, Special friend and caretaker Lori Anderson.
