Bernard Edwin Berberich

GLENWOOD — Bernard Edwin Berberich, age 88, of Glenwood, MN and formerly of Comfrey, MN died on November 29, 2020, Hoffman Senior Living Center in Hoffman, MN.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 4, 2020, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Villard, MN and will continue on Saturday from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Comfrey, MN. Due to Covid 19, visitation will be a “walk through” visitation to avoid congregating or gathering inside the building. All who attend are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing guidelines.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Comfrey on Saturday at 1:00 pm.

The clergy will be Father Mark Steffl. Interment will be at the St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Comfrey, MN.

Bernard Edwin Berberich was born on December 15, 1931 to Leonard and Alma (Baier) Berberich in Mulligan Township, in rural Brown County. He attended country school in district #81. In 1953, Bernard was drafted into the U.S. Army training in Ft. Gordon, Georgia. He served 1 1/2 years in Germany during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1955. On September 24, 1955, Bernard was united in marriage to Marlys Kettner. The couple lived on the family farm where he farmed until retiring in 1987. Marlys died on January 1, 1993. Bernard moved to Glenwood in 1993. On April 8, 2000, Bernard was married to LaDonna Jensen. He was a member of the Butterfield VFW and Villard Legion, St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Comfrey, and St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Villard. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, and his favorite activity was spearing Northerns from his spear house. Bernard played baseball and softball, and coached Legion baseball in Darfur, and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

He is survived by his wife LaDonna of Glenwood; children – Lesa (Dave) Savage of Hager City, WI, Jan (Scott) Radke of Minnesota Lake, Lori (Joe) Schumann of Comfrey, Kyle (Vicki) Berberich of Osakis, April Mathiowetz of St. Clair; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and siblings – Donna Stark of Mankato and Leonard “Skip” Berberich of Comfrey. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marlys; grandchildren Crystal Savage and Brady Berberich; sister Beatta “Tatty” (Wesley) Mickelson; brother-in-law Wendell Stark, and sister-in-law Margaret Berberich.
